You might be shocked at what could be living and growing in your water heater tank. Many homeowners neglect the maintenance task of flushing the water heater. In many conditions that may be less of a concern. That is definitely not the case for the residents living in the Buffalo Mountain community located in East Asheville, North Carolina. Approximately 187 residents of Buffalo Mountain are served by the community's well water system. Although the system operates within EPA drinking water standard (with some past exceptions) there are several violations of Federal regulation between 2014 & 2017. This is a more common scenario with small water system purveyors than is generally known to the public. I recently had the opportunity of assisting some long time residents of this community with replacing thier 10 year old water heater and installing a whole-house filtration system to correct unhealthy conditions. Upon draining and removing the water heater I was shocked to see what came out of the unit. Watch the video below and see for yourself! I collected samples of the different mineral deposits and unidentified objects that spewed from the tank In hopes performing further analysis. What is certain, is that residents of Buffalo Mountain need to be diligent about water heater maintenance, and should be concerned about what's in their water!
