This was an interesting exchange with any obviously unhappy Guy.
Dont forget to read the "Two Star Review" posted on Google: Here
Initial contact ocurred: Mon 12/9/202410:08 AM
There was a hydrotech watersoftener and filtering system installed in the house I bought. The unit wasinstalled in 2009.
There are two filtering tanksand one soft water tank, but I've bypassed the salt water tank. All units have$5,600 economider heads.
What is your recommendation formedia replacement? The generic answer I get from the web is every 10 to 20years, and I seem to be right between those two endpoints.
If you think it wise to changethe media, is that a service that you offer on hydrotech equipment?

Hello Guy.
Media life expectancies do vary based on water quality and system design.
As the system is over ten year sold and it is not a product of ours, and we are unfamiliar with the well water quality, we would not offer servicing. Contacting the original provider would be your best solution. If they are no longer providing services, the next option would be to get an updated analysis of the raw water to ensure conditions are relevant to the equipment.
As a matter of liability, providers in the area will replace that equipment rather than servicing it.

Thanks for the fastreply.
The unit was originallyinstalled by ******* out of Swannona. Google does not have a beat on them. Ireached out to you cuz I noticed you had a swannona ranch and I thought maybethere was a connection there.
Would you be able to providethe updated analysis?
My Reply: Mon 12/9/2024 4:03 PM
Yes we can do the analysis.
Here a link to what we test for.

I could schedule for next week. The analysis will take about 48 hours to process.
Let me know.

Well, I’m not interestedin spending $225 for a water test (been living here for six years, 200’community well, I do my own mineral tests). I know the environment.
Last option: without theexpensive water test, would your firm optionally rip-and-replace the old systemfor a two-stage water filter using customer replaceable filters?
My reply: Tue 12/10/2024 8:56AM
Understood.
Yes, being a community well, I presume someone is responsible for monitoring water quality. In which case it makes less sense to do an independent test, unless you are experiencing concerns that aren’t identified by whomever monitors the community well.
Testing for mineral content is not an effective means of determining water quality or identifying potential risks commonly found in well water. Wells are dynamic and changes in water quality or contaminants therein can occur. Do you have access to the most recent test reporting on this well?
Yes, we could disconnect the existing filtration equipment and install a user-friendly, cartridge-style two-stage filter. What size and type of cartridges are you looking for?
I would need a picture of the current installation to provide costs.

Thanks for the additionaldetail.
Attached is a photo of thecurrent setup. Tank on the left is for water softening, and is in bypass mode. Two tanks on the left are filter tanks. Everything installed in 2009.
I don't have access to thelatest water quality test, but we had to replace the pump about 3 years ago andI believe there was a test done immediately after that.
I'm open to either a two orthree stage depending on your recommendation. Something is happening in thesystem, either at the pump level or elsewhere, where the water will get a dirtybrown on unpredictable occasions. My primary goal is to simply get as muchfiltering done as possible without spending a boatload of money to do it. Thusfar the most reasonable approach seems to be to either replace the media in thetwo filtering tanks, since they don't seem to be doing a complete job, orreplacing it with cartridge filter systems where I can replace the cartridgesas needed.

This information furthers my opinion to consider testing the well. It will be necessary to understand what needs to be corrected, based on known conditions. This is the most cost-effective route as it will ensure whatever equipment you purchase or have serviced is appropriate for the conditions, will resolve the unpredictable brown water youve been experiencing and provide safe, potable water for your home. There are multiple reasons for the brown water breakthrough, i.e. elevated Iron, Iron Bacteria development, failing well casing, failed pressure tank, failing well, changes in source water etc.
I cannot provide recommendations for servicing or replacing the system without the relevant information from which those decisions would be made. You can’t make an informed decision about what filtration equipment is needed or would be effective at resolving your concerns, without the same information.
H2O Easy may not be the right vendor for you. Our policy is to do the work up front that will ensure success for our customers. Many local plumbers will provide general services to remove equipment and install whatever it is you think you need, without questioning whether it will perform as desired.
If it has been three years since the well was last tested, It may be worth discussing an updated water analysis with the HOA or purveyor that manages the community water system. Seems like that would be a sharable expense and certainly worth the knowledge and peace of mind.
The test we offer provides the most in-depth, locally provided analysis for the cost and will ensures you have all the relevant information to make effective choices, but there are many options locally for basic water testing done.
Regards.
Chris

I returned your call and reminded you of our previous communications.
You requested the water analysis I had previously recommended.
I performed the analysis, and upon receipt of payment, I forwarded a written report, for your records, along with a quote for replacement of the equipment, as follows:
Hi Guy.
Based on the attached water analysis report, primary considerations should include correcting the acidic pH, iron removal, and mitigating Iron Bacteria.
-Acidic Water Neutralizer
Product model NG.100DVE.
Product cost is $995.
This product requires power to operate, and annual service to replenishment sacrificial media blend.
-Iron and IRB
Recommended IronGenie Plus with O3 Bio-Shield to mitigate bio-fouling effects of IRB
Product model IGAI03K1054VE is recommended.
Product cost is $2485.
This product requires power to operate and annual service to maintain wearable components, perform O3 generator cleaning.
-Labor and materials to remove existing equipment and install new equipment as recommended. $675
Sales tax is not included inpricing.
-Additional consideration may be warranted for hardwater correction. The process of neutralizing acidic water will increase total hardness from 5.0 gpg to approx. 8.0-10.0 gpg. Hardwater is an esthetic concern and may damage water using appliances due to scale development. Hardwater correction is not considered in our initial recommendations. If you would like to review options for hard water correction and or scale prevention, let me know.
Please call or reply with anyquestions.

What are my options for keeping the equipment that Ihave, and changing media as necessary to address the problems? Wholesalereplacement of equipment that is working but maybe needing simple maintenanceis not a credible alternative
My reply: Tue 3/4/2025 2:37 PM
Hi Guy.
Replacement of the existing equipment is credible, and advised, but I understand if it is not a feasible option for you at this time.
My position on servicing the equipment is unchanged from our initial conversation last fall.
Have you contacted Mountain WaterSystems? They've been around longer than we have (although several owners have come and gone) it's possible they did the original installation.
I'm not personally aware of a provider that would service the aged, fouled equipment, and be willing to assume liability.
Several plumbing contractors and well companies in the area offer filtration services, which may be another avenue to pursue.
